A Coffee House Concert

March is Music In Our Schools Month, and to celebrate this, the Watertown Schools Music Department, in partnership with the Watertown Music Booster Association, is presenting a Musical Coffee House, with the theme “Music Lasts A Lifetime”.

The Coffee House will be on Wednesday, March 28, from 6:00 PM -8:30 PM in the Swift Middle School Cafeteria. Soloists and ensembles from the Watertown Schools and from the community will provide entertainment in a variety of musical styles from Jazz to Pop to Classical, and coffee, cookies, and pastries will be served. Students, faculty members, alumnae and members of the community will perform in 15 minute “sets”. Admission will be $5.00 per person, which will include a beverage and a dessert. Proceeds from the Coffee House will be used to sponsor live professional musical performances at all of Watertown’s schools.

On March 2nd, in recognition of Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day, students at JTPS will be treated to stories read by students from Swift Middle School. Some of our own second graders will be reading to preschool and Kindergarten classes! All of the students will take the following reader's oath:

I promise to read

Each day and each night.

I know it's the key

To growing up right.

I'll read to myself,

I'll read to a crowd.

It makes no difference

If silent or loud.

I'll read at my desk,

At home and at school,

On my bean bag or bed,

By the fire or pool.

Each book that I read

Puts smarts in my head,

'Cause brains grow more thoughts

The more they are fed.

So I take this oath

To make reading my way

Of feeding my brain

What it needs every day.
