The Variety Show hosted by the Junior Class will be postponed until Tuesday June 18^th from 6:30 – 8:30. Anyone interested in performing must see Ms. Guerrera or Mr. Hennessey by the end of the week.

Students interested in going on the trip to Italy next year must see Mr. Mathews as soon as possible in Room 146 or 147.

Seniors please do not bring water bottles or food for the picnic. There is plenty of both at the picnic. Bring your bathing suits and towels, any clothing you want and shirts to tie dye. They have a place for you to put your backpacks. There are all kinds of sport activities, relays and contests to compete in. Also, if you want to go horseback riding bring $25. Otherwise, you do not need any money. The picnic is on rain or shine!

All students with FLEX passes must first check in with their FLEX teacher and then wait for the announcement to pass before leaving their FLEX class.

If any seniors want to participate in the graduation video, they can sign up in the main office. You don’t have to be part of a club or team to participate.

“Attention seniors! As a reminder, 20 hours of community service are required for graduation. If you have not already done so, please turn in your community service forms to the counseling office as soon as possible!! See your counselor with any questions!”

Good Morning:

"Attention all students planning to take AP chemistry next year: There will be a mandatory meeting today during flex period in SC 209. Course expectations, overview, and summer work will be discussed and distributed. If a student is unable to attend this meeting, they must see Dr. Louey ASAP."

Referendum Results: The school budget failed by 31 votes, 1,221 yes to 1,252 no. The town budget passed, 1,356 yes to 1,113 no.

Mary Jane Miller was a valued member and coordinator of our WHS World Language teaching staff. She will be truly missed.

On Ms. Miller’s teacher page, Ms. Miller stated that “the study of French is an incredible journey… And I am so glad you have decided to travel this road with me.”

Her children can think of no better way to honor their beautiful mother than creating the Mary Jane Miller Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will go to a high school senior that plans to pursue World Languages in college. It was their mother's quest to enrich her student’s lives by showing them the beauty and history of Europe. It is through this scholarship that her passion and love of travel will live on in her deserving students for years to come.

Local student to perform in All-Eastern honors ensemble

WATERTOWN — Christine Manalo, from Watertown High School, has been selected to perform with the mixed choir in the 2013 NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensemble.

With the assistance from her music teacher, Donna Poliquin, Christine will prepare remarkably challenging music that she will perform under the leadership of a prominent conductor in this biennial event. Students will spend three days rehearsing together during the Eastern Division Conference of The National Association for Music Education to be held in Hartford, Connecticut in preparation for performances on Sunday, April 7.

The NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles, consisting of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus, treble voice chorus, and jazz ensemble, are organized by members of The National Association for Music Education.

The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have approximately one hundred fifty instrumentalists, the jazz ensemble will have twenty instrumentalists, the treble voice chorus will have one hundred twenty vocalists, and the mixed chorus will have approximately three hundred fifty vocalists. Student participation from each state is determined by a percentage of the total NAfME Eastern Division membership, with no state given less than two percent representation.

Each of the state music educators associations in the Eastern Division (Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Massachussetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Europe) oversee the selection process in their state during the spring and early fall of the year before the event and compile ranked lists of recommended junior and seniors for consideration.

The method used to compile the participating student lists varies from state to state, although all recommended students must have participated in their home all-state festivals.

The 2013 NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles will perform for an audience of thousands on Sunday, April 7, at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, Mortensen Hall, in Hartford, Connecticut.

NAfME is the National Association for Music Education. The Eastern Division Conference is held every two years and his hosted by a local state Music Educators Association. The 2013 Conference takes place from April 4--7, 2013 at the Connecticut Convention Center, Hartford, CT.
