The Watertown Public Schools Food Service Department is a participant in the National School Lunch Program. Meals are prepared to meet the many state and federal guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the State Department of Education. Meals meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowances for school-aged children. Our goals are to provide nutritious, tasty and affordable meals to our students and staff supporting the educational process. Studies have shown that well fed students have fewer absences and perform better academically.
The Watertown Public Schools Food Service Department certifies to comply with the Connecticut Nutrition Standards which focus on limiting fat, saturated fat, trans fat, sodium and added sugars, moderating portion sizes, and promoting increased intake of nutrient-dense foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, low-fat and nonfat dairy products, lean meats and legumes. The Watertown Public Schools Food Service Department is a participant of the Department of Defense Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program making a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables available to our students on a daily basis.
