Welcome to fourth grade!

 welcome_sign.gif

Hello and welcome to fourth grade.  I'm Mrs. Gruettner.  I love teaching my students and having my students in turn teach me!  I hold respect as my number one rule, and my classroom is run based on this character trait.  I love to dance and read interesting books! Every day it is exciting to go into work and experience such fun with the students.

What are we learning this marking period?

Reading:This quarter students will be working on skills that good readers use to discuss reading.  They will learn about nonfiction text structure and about myths and hero stories.

Math: This quarter in math, students will focus on fractions, decimals, and problem solving.  Students will learn strategies to help them understand the concept of multiplication/division and to be able to solve multiplication/division problems.  Learning multiplication/division facts is extremely important this year.

Language Arts/Spelling: Language Arts skills for grammar and punctuation will be taught through the students' written responses. Sentence structure and types of sentences will  be looked at this quarter. Students will be learning various spelling strategies that can be used throughout their written work.

Science:   The first marking period students will be learning about electricity and magnetism.

Social Studies:  We will be studying Connecticut as a state.  We will focus on Connecticut's role in the Revolutionary War.
