Welcome to fourth grade!

Hello and welcome to fourth grade.  I'm Mrs. Gruettner.  I love teaching my students and having my students in turn teach me!  I hold respect as my number one rule, and my classroom is run based on this character trait.  I love to dance and read interesting books! Every day it is exciting to go into work and experience such fun with the students.

What are we learning this marking period?

Reading:This quarter students will be working on skills that good readers use to discuss reading, visualize as they read, and listen to their inner conversation. They will also be working on finding the lesson and theme of a story.  They will explore poetry and the theme of a poem.  They will work to support their answers with details from the text.  Soon we will begin examining nonfiction text and the pieces that comprise expository text.

Math: This quarter in math, students will focus on multiplciation and division skills.  Memorizing facts will be key.  We will also be working on fractions, problem solving skills, probability, and time this quarter.

Language Arts/Spelling: Language Arts skills for grammar and punctuation will be taught through the students' written responses. Sentence structure and types of sentences will  be looked at this quarter. Students will be learning various spelling strategies that can be used throughout their written work.

Science:  We will begin studying the solar system and the bodies that comprise it.  We will study the sun, moon, and planets to help us understand the world we are part of each day.

 Social Studies:
