Language Arts:

We are working to STOP, THINK, and WRITE. We have been practicing our Inner Conversation and using our Inner Voice!!! We are using our inner voice to help us respond, make connections, and find the lesson learned! Wooohooo characters are so important!!! We are finishing our character unit. We have watched how our characters develop before our eyes!! We will be completing our assesment by Friday February 3, 2012. Students are required to read two books by the same author and write a letter to a Disney Producer for a movie! This assessment will be done IN school!!!

What do good readers do as they read? They use reading strategies. We are going to learn all about helpful reading strategies that will enable your child to become a stronger and more successful reader, which include CONNECTING, PICTURING, WONDERING, PREDICTING, NOTICING, and FIGURING OUT. For success, please encourage your child to read and state the main idea, recall facts and details, sequence events, summarize the story, recognize cause and effect relationships, compare and contrast information, make predictions, find word meaning in context, draw conclusions,  make inferences, distinguish between fact and opinion, identify the author's purpose, interpret figurative language, and make connections. READ! READ! READ! Students will also practice their grammar skills and learning all about sentence structure, while maintaining their spelling skills.
