WELCOME!

We are currently working on how forces, motion and energy affect structural design. Students will be starting a project that requires them to build a roller coaster, compound machine or a bridge. they will then need to explain the effect of forces and motion on their structure.

                                                    Science Is Everywhere

The most important subject around,                        The paper making up this page,
Is science, of course, I've clearly found,                    Why sausage needs a bit of sage,
It's in each breath of air we breathe,                       The diets to keep us slim or fat,
In all the chlorophyll we receive.                                   And wine fermenting in the vat.

It helps the farmer tend his grain,                              It's why the sky is gray or blue,
And sometimes even makes it rain,                   And how each morning brings the dew,
It studies beehives, queens and drones,                    It's fire and ice and foam and mace,
It's in the wire of telephones.                           It's the factor that helps one win a race.

Cool earthworms oozing under rocks,                           It's superstition's bitter foe,
The habitat of the desert fox,                               No guessing here, you have to know,
Planets hanging out in space,                                     It's nuclear power, fierce and strong,
Even treatment of our waste.                   It's balance in nature that can't go wrong.

The coral snake, the artic tern,                               It's mist and fogged-up window panes,
Huge blue whales and long green ferns,            And paint to mark off parking lanes,
The isolation of our genes,                                              The brillance of a rainbow hue,
Houshold products that help us clean.                The total  existence of me and you.

Our gasohol and fossil fuel,                                               I could go on, and on, and on,
The dimensions of a metric rule,       With things here and now
and long, long gone  Tornadic winds and solar heat,                    The list could grow and grow and grow,
The vitamins and minerals found in meat.    From lofty skyscrapers to rising dough.

Bugging, cloning, computer advice,                      So science, my friends, is everywhere,
Test tube babes and super rice,                                In foods we eat and clothes we wear
TV's, UFO's, volcanic ash,                                  It's why there's calm before a storm
the ointment for a stubborn rash.                                  It's life itself in every form!

Acoustics in a certain place,
    Plastic surgery on the face,
Insects and mollusks all around,
Big Foot's imprints on the ground.

Science is all around us and is an integral part of our lives.

Science is asking questions and finding answers.

This year we will be exploring Physical Science. More specifically we will be  learning about:

      >the laws of motion.

      >forces that act on an object.

      >energy transfers and transformations.

      >how forces, motion and energy affect structural design.

      >the effects of the position and movement of Earth in our solar system.

Please Note: Homework assignments are posted in the classroom and students are expected to copy them in to their agendas.

Tips for Sucess!

Be prepared for class with book, notebook, pen/pencil.

Keep a neat notebook!

Ask questions.

Bring a metric ruler and calculator to class.

Do your homework.
