The Watertown Public Schools Food Service Department is a participant in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). Meals are prepared to meet the strict State and Federal Guidelines set by the USDA and the State Department of Education. Our goal is to provide nutritious, delicious and affordable meals to our students. Studies have show that well fed students have fewer absences and perform better academically.
The Watertown Public Schools Food Service Department certified to comply with the Connecticut Nutrition Standards which focus on limiting fat, saturated fat, trans fat, sodium and added sugars. The nutrition standards also moderate portion sizes and promote increased intake of nutrient-dense foods such a whole grains, fruits & vegetables, low fat dairy products, lean meats and legumes. The Watertown Public Schools Food Service Department provides a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (called a Rainbow Tray) available daily to students.
