Superintendent of Schools

Dear Watertown Faculty and Families, Friday, February 26, 2021

This week we welcomed back Swift sixth graders. It was energizing to peek into classrooms and see friends, classmates and teachers united again! And, our elementary schools were busy creating, designing, and engaging in work across the disciplines. Check out some of the pictures I snapped from around the district. Have a great weekend everyone!

Black History Month

“This year marks the 95th anniversary of Black History Month, first proposed by Harvard-trained historian Carter G. Woodson and later expanded to a month in 1976 by President Gerald R. Ford. The annual celebration recognizes the role of Black Americans in U.S. history. Woodson believed that the Black experience was too important to be left to an occasional chapter in academic studies. As a result, each February, Black History Month is observed with special events, speakers, promotions and community initiatives”.

As we move into March, I challenge each of us to not only think of Black History during the month of February but to think about our country’s history with Black and African American people throughout the entire year and their incredible contributions to our community and the world.

 Quote of the week

“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than yourself.”
