Video: Extension in Action at WHS!
In AP Literature, Mr. Kuegler is using Extension time in a highly intentional way based directly on student data and feedback. After identifying vocabulary as an area for growth, students began building a shared study resource by each creating a Google Slide dedicated to one academic vocabulary word — defining it, analyzing it, and preparing it for class wide use.
The impact is already visible. Mr. Kuegler reports that students are now actively using these vocabulary words in their writing and more accurately identifying them in their reading.
During the next Extension cycle, students will reinforce their learning through a Jeopardy-style vocabulary review game, adding both rigor and engagement to the process.
This is exactly why we built Extension into our schedule, to create focused time for targeted skill development that responds directly to student need.
